The ApproachBuilding an accessible voice and text knowledge assistant complying with WCAG AA standards to facilitate effortless access to scientific repositories.

The King Salman Center for Disability Research plays a foundational role in commissioning, evaluating, and publishing scientific studies dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities and supporting their integration into educational, clinical, and community life. Over decades, the center accumulated an invaluable archive of peer-reviewed clinical studies and rehabilitation manuals, yet extracting actionable insights remained challenging for non-specialist families and busy practitioners.

The center developed an inclusive digital knowledge gateway adhering to stringent accessibility principles for visual, auditory, and motor considerations. At its core, an intelligent conversational engine synthesized lengthy research publications into accessible summaries, contextual recommendations, and plain-language guidance.

Incorporating speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and generative summarization from eChat, the interface enabled users to navigate scientific subjects purely through spoken Arabic. Beneficiaries with visual or physical impairments could query research findings verbally and listen to natural audio syntheses of study conclusions without needing conventional screen inputs.

"Smart conversational AI made our scientific research and specialized resources accessible to every family and researcher with total digital inclusion."

The system indexed academic publications, early detection screening protocols, and assistive technology catalogs, citing original authors and offering direct links to complete documentation. Intelligent queries connected parents of newly diagnosed children with verified developmental guidelines and community resources in seconds.

The initiative transformed static scientific literature into an interactive public asset for families, educators, and clinicians across the region. By removing technological and cognitive access barriers, the center demonstrated how purposeful artificial intelligence can bridge science and society to enrich human lives.
